There is no good in much of their secret conferences save (in) whosoever enjoineth charity and fairness and peace-making among the people and whoso doeth that, seeking the good pleasure of God, We shall bestow on him a vast reward.

UK arms sale to Israel to be reviewed

Wed, 07 Apr 2010  |  PressTV

A British parliamentary committee will call on the government to review future arms sales after it emerged that Israel “almost certainly” used British equipments and weaponry during last year’s Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip.

The Commons committee on strategic export controls expressed deep sorrow after it was acknowledged by the government that the arms exports from the UK were “almost certainly” used by Israel during the Operation Cast Lead.

The committee released a report today citing MP`s who said: "This is in direct contravention to the UK government's policy that UK arms exports to Israel should not be used in the Occupied Territories."

According to the report government-approved arms exports to Israel amounted to more than £27.5m in 2008. Official statistics also revealed that UK government rubberstamped nearly £4m worth of export licenses for weapons and equipment being used both for military and civil purposes after the Gaza attack.

Following Israel attacks on Gaza last year, British Foreign Secretary told the House of Commons that all future arms exports to Israel “will be assessed taking into account the recent conflict “ while admitting that equipments used in the Gaza assault “ almost certainly” contained British-supplied components included in cockpit displays in US F-16 aircrafts sold to Israel.
