Defense Secretary Robert Gates today tried to spin Americans on the "progress" of the Afghanistan War. Despite his assertions, the facts are clear: insurgent attacks jumped 64 percent this year; more civilians died than any prior year of the conflict; and the "security bubbles" talked about in Helmand and Kandahar provinces situated in increasingly violent parts of the country.
