HOW ELON MUSK IS AIDING THE US EMPIRE’S REGIME CHANGE OPERATION IN IRAN

Elon Musk has announced that he is helping to smuggle hundreds of Starlink satellite communications devices into Iran. The South African-born billionaire made the admission on December 26, replying to a tweet lauding female Iranian protesters for refusing to cover their hair. “Approaching 100 Starlinks active in Iran”, he tweeted, clearly implying a political motivation to his work.

That Musk is involved in Washington’s attempts to weaken or overthrow the administration in Tehran has been clear for some months now. In September – at the height of the demonstrations following the suspicious death of 22-year-old Iranian woman Mahsa Amini – Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that the U.S. was “taking action” “to advance Internet freedom and the free flow of information for the Iranian people” and “to counter the Iranian government’s censorship,” to which Musk replied, “Activating Starlink…”

While this could be understood as a positive step, unfortunately, what Washington means by internet freedom and the free flow of information (as we at MintPress News have covered before) is nothing more than the liberty of the U.S. government to flood foreign countries with relentless pro-U.S. messaging.

Starlink is an internet service allowing those with terminals to directly connect to one of over 3,000 small satellites in low Earth orbit. Many of these satellites were launched by Musk’s SpaceX technologies company. Terminals are, in effect, small, portable satellite dishes that can be used by those in the near vicinity to skirt national government restrictions on communications and get online anywhere at any time.

The process of smuggling Starlinks into Iran has been far from easy – or cheap. Each terminal has cost more than $1000 to purchase and transport, as couriers have charged high premiums on the risky cargo. Nevertheless, some sources have suggested as many as 800 have made it over the border unscathed.

KEEPING UKRAINE FIGHTING

Musk’s Iran operation bears a striking resemblance to his actions earlier this year in Ukraine – another current top priority of the United States. In the aftermath of February’s Russian invasion, Musk garnered worldwide goodwill after declaring that he was “donating” thousands of Starlink terminals to Ukraine in order to keep the country online. However, these were inordinately given to the Ukrainian military and soon became the backbone of its efforts at stalling Russian advances. Ukraine’s hi-tech, Western-made weaponry relies upon online connections, the military using Starlink’s services for everything from thermal imaging, target acquisition and artillery strikes to Zoom calls.

With more than 20,000 terminals in operation, Starlink is, according to Western media, a “lifeline” and an “essential tool” without which Ukrainian resistance would have been broken. The government agrees; “SpaceX and Musk quickly react to problems and help us,” deputy prime minister Mykhailo Fedorov said recently, adding that there is “no alternative” for his forces, other than Musk’s products.

Thousands of teachers in England and Wales to hold strikes in February-March

Thousands of teachers in England and Wales will take part in strikes in February and March, demanding higher salaries. The majority of the members of the National Educational Union voted for this decision, according to a statement issued on Monday by the trade union, which unites about 510 thousand teachers.

It is noted that 90% of teachers and 84% of support staff spoke in favor of strikes with the aim of "fully funded salary increases above the inflation rate." In total, the union organizes seven strikes from February 1 to March 16. However, they will be implemented in such a way that each school will not work due to strikes for no more than four days.

In 2022, teachers' salaries in England and Wales were raised by 5%. However, the trade union insists that this is not enough in a situation where inflation in the country last year approached a record for four decades of 11%.

Earlier, more than 70 thousand employees at 150 British universities and colleges announced their determination to hold strikes. The strikes, which will last for 18 days in February-March of this year, are organized by the Trade Union of Universities and Colleges, according to which the main disagreements with employers relate to "pay, working conditions and attacks on pensions."

A wave of strikes has swept the UK since December 2022 amid a sharp rise in inflation and a drop in real incomes. In particular, railway workers, border control officers, ambulance service employees, nurses and postmen did not go to work. The British authorities have repeatedly stated that they cannot afford to raise the salaries of people employed in the public sector in accordance with the level of inflation, since such measures will only lead to further price increases in the country and create an additional burden on the budget.

Comment by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the adoption of a resolution on combatting the glorification of Nazism by the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly.                                                                                                     

12 December 2022:

On December 15, participants in the plenary meeting of the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution submitted by the Russian Federation on behalf of 32 co-authors from all around the world, Combatting Glorification of Nazism, Neo-Nazism and Other Practices that Contribute to Fuelling Contemporary Forms of Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance. The resolution was adopted by a vote of 120 in favour to 50 against, with 10 abstentions.

On November 4, the draft was approved by the Third Committee of the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly.

Despite the unprecedented pressure the “collective West” puts on the UN member states, the result of the vote clearly indicates their unwillingness to question the results of the Second World War as outlined in the UN Charter, the Nuremberg Charter and the Nuremberg Trials verdict, as well as the verdict of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East.

Against this backdrop, the position of the former member states of the Axis which, for the first time in UN history, voted against this type of document cannot be understood and it evokes resentment. What did they vote against? The resolution condemns the glorification of Nazism and manifestations of neo-Nazism. It notes the unacceptability of attempts to falsify history, justify the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Nazis, their allies, and collaborationists. The resolution expresses outrage over the marches and processions to glorify those who fought on the side of the Nazis or cooperated with them, while expressing concern over the Western countries’ system-wide and total “war” against monuments in honour of those who fought for the liberation of the planet from Nazism.

It is noteworthy that the Western countries’ attempts to politicise the discussion, even scores with Russia in the context of the situation in Ukraine and undermine the adoption of the document not only failed, but they also revealed the true reasons for their unwillingness to vote for the eradication of Nazism and the prevention of neo-Nazism, concealed by alleged concern for freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, as well as time-serving political considerations.

In this regard, it is especially gratifying that most countries still objectively assess the outcome of the Second World War and understand the importance of the preservation of the UN’s fundamental principles to prevent a recurrence of the horrors of war like those that were fostered by the criminal ideology and practice of Nazism. At the same time, current global developments prove the immediate relevance of this key initiative in the UN, which is a priority for Russia and our counterparts.

Russia Speaks On Endgame For Ukraine Conflict at the UN!

Speaking at a briefing at the UN Security Council, the envoy commented on a possible path for ending the hostilities between the two sides. The opportunity to settle the conflict “will only present itself once Ukraine stops posing a threat to Russia and discriminating against Russian-speaking Ukrainians,” he said.

Nebenzia noted that “if this result can be achieved through negotiations, we stand ready for this scenario. If not – then our tasks will be achieved by military means.”

On Sunday, Bolsonaro supporters stormed and looted the buildings in Brasilia that house the presidential office, parliament, and the Supreme Court – in protest over the outcome of the highly contentious presidential election in October, which leftist politician Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva won by a razor-thin margin of less than 2% of the vote.

Bolsonaro posted a video on Facebook on January 10, in which a regional official claimed that “Lula has not been elected by the Brazilian people.”

Taliban Demand Court for ‘Criminal’ Prince Harry [RT 7 Jan 2023]

Taliban leaders have called for Prince Harry to face international courts after he admitted to feeling no pride or shame in killing 25 of their fighters in Afghanistan, to whom he made “cruel and barbaric” references as “chess pieces”.

“Criminals like Harry who proudly confess their crimes will be brought to the court table in front of the international community,” said Taliban spokesperson Khalid Zadran, who accused the Royal and his western allies of helping spark a “holy jihad” against themselves.

The primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, has called on the forces of both Russia and Ukraine to cease hostilities in the run-up to and during Christmas. Both Ukrainian and Russian Orthodox faithful traditionally celebrate the holiday on January 7.

In a statement on Wednesday, Patriarch Kirill addressed to “all parties embroiled in internal strife…an appeal to cease fire and establish a Christmas truce from 12:00 on January 6 to 24:00 on January 7.”

The purpose of the ceasefire would be to enable the Orthodox faithful “to attend services on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day,” Kirill stated.

Zelensky Finds Excuse to Reject Christmas Ceasefire

The Christmas cessation of hostilities offered by Moscow was merely a ruse to improve Moscow’s standing on the battlefield, Zelensky claimed - calling on Russians to overthrow their govt instead.

In a video message to Ukrainians, Zelensky said he had offered a “peace plan” to Moscow in December, starting with the withdrawal of all Russian troops from territories claimed by Kiev..

Kiev’s troops have made no advances in Donbass for the past several weeks. The few reports coming from the embattled city of Bakhmut/Artyomovsk speak of high casualties among Ukrainian soldiers.

Unilateral ceasefire ordered by Putin comes into force in Ukraine

A brief ceasefire between the warring sides in Ukraine ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Christmas Eve took effect early on Friday, Russian state television said, marking the first pause in the protracted war. 

"At noon today, the ceasefire regime came into force on the entire contact line," Russia's state-run First Channel announced on Friday, saying the truce will continue until the end of January 7.

The ceasefire order came on Thursday following an appeal by Patriarch Kirill, the leader of the Russian Orthodox Church. Russia will be observing the truce for 36 hours, from 12:00 local time (0900 GMT) on January 6 until midnight on January 7, a report in state-owned RT said.

“We call upon the Ukrainian side to proclaim a cessation of hostilities and give them [Orthodox Christians] the opportunity to attend services on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day,” read a Kremlin statement.

This is while Ukrainian and Russian troops continued to attack each other’s positions in eastern Ukraine, according to reports.

The Russian truce has been rejected by Kiev, with officials there calling the move “hypocritical".
