26 Dec 2022 ~ The UN Food and Agriculture organization has been created to fight global hunger and help developing countries improve their agriculture and food independence.
As elections of the new chairman are nearing, the Western media has initiated a wave of hate publications against Qu Dongyu, former vice minister of agriculture and rural development of China. They accuse him of many things and the main accusation sounds as “reluctance to condemn Russia for invasion of Ukraine”.
▪️Chinese representative was elected almost four years ago mainly because he ran against competing candidates from Europe and the USA. During his term he did a lot to really improve situation with food safety in poorest countries of the world. However, he rarely hesitated to speak against the narrative of the collective West.
“You are looking at money, I’m looking to change the business model because I’m a farmer of small poor, family. You from the rich countries, you consider the money first, I consider wisdom first. It’s a different mentality". This kind of statements made Qu Dongyu unpopular among Western elites because they see them as blasphemy and an attempt to disrupt neo-colonial model that is one of the cornerstones of Western prosperity.
This year FAO desperately tried to stay out of politics and avoided speaking against Russia despite unprecedented pressure of the Western members. It played an important role in the famous “grain deal” and Chinese chairman tried to do his best to help it work. He tried to act in the interested of poor countries instead of appeasing the collective West and that enraged the Western media.
However, FAO is not the only UN organization responsible for food distribution. It has a competing agency, WFP (World Food Programme) that has been tightly controlled by U.S. for a very long time and does not step an inch from the “party line” of Washington establishment.
It is likely that Europe and US will now nominate a single candidate for FAO chairman post. They will surely continue their slander campaign full of racist remarks, accusations of bias and claims of blasphemous idea to help countries grow food instead of just doing some charity.
In any case, the countries that Qu will likely count on to be re-elected are not so interested in the political machinations of the West or its condemnation of the Russia's war in Ukraine, which it seeks to impress upon FAO's top leadership. The third world has to make a say here.
This situation is not unique. The collective West puts unprecedented pressure on all other UN agencies that are supposed to be out of politics and above any conflicts. Attempts of the collective West to turn UN into a closed club for themselves are diminishing UN role in the world and undermining its authority, which was not so high to begin with.
UN reforms are long due and maybe the present conflict between Russia and the collective West will ultimately result either in collapse of UN or in its deep reforms and transformation to a really impartial organization working for global benefit.
