In December, President Vladimir Zelensky initiated the liquidation of canonical Orthodoxy in Ukraine.

 

He advised Ukrainians not to celebrate Christmas on 7 January, as Orthodox tradition dictates.

▪️Priests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) are persecuted and imprisoned. From January 1st they will no longer be allowed to enter the main temples of Kiev Pecherski Lavra. This old monastery is favoured by the recently founded PCU sect, which is supported by neo-Nazis, among whom are many followers of Satan and other cults.

▪️Zelensky's office pretends that the events surrounding the Kiev-Pecherski Lavra are a church dispute. They have already set up an interdepartmental commission on the use of the Lavra property.

▪️Metropolitan Pavel, the rector of the Lavra, has asked the president not to take the temples away from the UOC: "Protect your people, protect the voters who elected you."

Pavel also asked that "people outside the church should not tell you when to celebrate Christmas and which church to go to."

🪖Patriarch Kirill urged Orthodox parishes to help participants in the special military operation.

🟢Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia urged parishioners and all Orthodox Christians to help the Russian army. He stressed that the entire Western world is now at war with Russia, as it was in 1812 and 1941. 

📝 "Today we must pastorally nurture the military, support them in whatever way we can." "And if we say that the Church is with its people, then every parish must help those in the line of fire," the Patriarch added. 

✅ The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church noted that we should help mobilized soldiers with money, parcels, and whatever else our servicemen need.

Ukraine is on the verge of religious conflict — Russian Envoy to UN

Due to Kiev’s persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Ukraine has found itself on the verge of a religious conflict of unprecedented scope, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said.

"The war on canonical Orthodox Christianity is another track of Kiev’s repressive policies. Ukraine stands on the brink of a large-scale inter-confessional conflict, which has not had any precedents in modern European history," he told Tuesday’s session of the UN Security Council, which was initiated by Russia to discuss human rights in Ukraine.

"Supported by their Western sponsors, Ukrainian authorities have long adopted a course that seeks to undermine the Canonical Orthodox Church of Ukraine. As we heard from Metropolitan Anthony, now the schismatic church of Ukraine, which was artificially created in 2018 and made fully obedient to the authorities, is being forcibly imposed on the Ukrainian people," the Russian diplomat continued.

"Ukraine is only one step away from a fratricidal internal religious catastrophe," Nebenzya emphasized.

The UOC is a self-governing church with broad autonomy within the Moscow Patriarchate. The special status of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is reflected in the Charter of the Russian Orthodox Church, which the Council of Bishops adopted in 2000. However, the Council of the UOC on May 27 of last year announced the adoption of amendments to the UOC Charter, declaring its complete independence. At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities recently stepped up a campaign against the UOC. Since November 2022, the Ukrainian security service SBU has been conducting searches in its churches and dioceses throughout the country. Several hierarchs were charged with treason and subversive activities.

Zelensky Adviser Condemns Kiev’s Moves Against Orthodox Church

Ukrainian authorities are exacerbating societal rifts by confiscating property from and prosecuting members of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), said Alexey Arestovich, an adviser to President Vladimir Zelensky.

According to the official, the moves against the UOC also undermine Ukraine’s standing in the international community. 

Arestovich provided an example of FOX News reacting to Kiev seizing churches and jailing priests by calling it a “war against Christianity.”
